NEVER OBSERVE THE SUN WITHOUT USING THE PROPER FILTER. EYE
DAMAGE CAN OCCUR INSTANTLY. A FINDER SCOPE THAT HAS NO FILTER IS ALSO A
POTENTIAL HAZARD. KEEPING IT CAPPED WILL PREVENT LIGHT FROM INADVERTENTLY
PASSING THROUGH IT INTO SOMEONE'S EYES.
As with any optical instrument, always handle the filter with care. When not in
use, keep the filter in its original packaging to protect against accidental
damage or unnecessary contaminants.
Cleaning: The outside of the filter can be cleaned as often as necessary using a
soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol. The inside surface, which is coated, will
seldom need cleaning and should only be cleaned when absolutely necessary. Dust
or loose particles on the inside should be blown off.
Although pinholes and scratches are common in glass solar filters, we are proud
of the fact that they are rare in our filters. Pin holes and scratches can be
masked with a felt tipped pen. All touch-ups should be made on the inside
(coated) surface. As many as 20 touch-ups per aperture inch can be made with no
adverse affects on the performance or safety of the filter.
Mounting and Using
Identi-View™ Premium Glass Solar Filters are custom sized to fit over the
telescope tube with a slight interference. In some cases if the filter is too
loose, it can be tightened by adding felt tabs (included) to the inside wall.
Care should be taken not to make it too tight creating undue stress on the cell
and lens.
